Heena Sidhu, the star sport shooter from India and by far the best of the female pistol shooters in the country. She is the first among Indians to reach the No.1 rank in the world in Pistol Shooting, by International Sport Shooting Federation as on 7th April, 2014. She has been the only Indian shooter after Gagan Narang and Anjali Bhagwat to have won a Gold Medal in Pistol/Rifle Shooting World Cup. The event for which she won the Gold Medal was 10 metre Air Pistol Shooting. Born to affluent parents, Heena has an illustrious family background, with her father Rajbir Sidhu being a National Shooter himself and her uncle Inderjit Sidhu being a Guns customizer and a professional Gun–maker. Her mother Rominder Kaur is a housewife, who has also been a big inspiration in her life. Heena is not the only National level shooter in her family. Her brother Karanbir has also represented India in the 10 metre Pistol Shooting event.

Heena Sidhu was born and brought up in Ludhiana, Punjab. She has received tremendous boost and support from her family to take up gun shooting. Heena pursued a career in medical sciences and is a well–known dentist. She completed a course in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in 2013. Heena Sidhu debut or big breakthrough was the winning of a silver medal in the ISSF World Cup held in Beijing in 2009. Heena made it to the big league when she won a silver medal in the team event in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol along with Sonia Rai and Annu Raj Singh in the 2010 Asian Games held in Guangzhou, China.

Heena also won a ‘Gold Medal’ in the same event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi. She shared the honour with Annu Raj Singh. In the singles event, Heena grabbed a ‘Silver Medal’ as well, making India really proud of her.
